Ecology invites you to review and comment on the Agreed Order
for the completion of a Remedial Investigation (RI) and Feasibility Study (FS) for the Simplot Soilbuilders Sunnyside
site located at 300 South 1st Street in Sunnyside.
An Agreed Order is a legal document between Ecology and the Potentially Liable Persons (PLPs) outlining the process, expectations, and schedule for cleanup at the site. A Remedial Investigation shows how far the contamination has gone and the Feasibility Study outlines different options, with costs and timelines, to do the cleanup.
In the 1960s, Simplot Soilbuilders began operating an agricultural distribution facility for fertilizers, pesticides, and soil amendments. It is now operating as Simplot Grower Solutions. Environmental Investigations in 2007 and 2008 showed contamination of agricultural chemicals, diesel, and gasoline in soil and groundwater.
In 2012, contaminated soil from a fertilizer spray equipment rinse area was excavated and removed. In 2011, the main warehouse, office building, fertilizer storage tank area, and containment system was removed. A new office building and concrete basin containment structure was built. A maintenance shop remains on the site.
